Traditional scented candles offer atmosphere and relaxation, but they also come with several limitations. At the same time, users increasingly expect home products to be not only functional, but also emotionally engaging and aesthetically integrated into their living spaces. This created an opportunity to rethink the candle as a smart, interactive, and safer sensory product.

1. Recreate the emotional ritual of using a traditional candle
2. Reduce the risks associated with open flame
3. Introduce more playful and intuitive interaction
4. Deliver a richer sensory experience through light, scent, sound, and touchless control
Rather than designing a purely decorative object, I aimed to build a product that combined functional interaction, atmosphere creation, and technical feasibility in a single concept.

This project involved extensive prototyping and testing to refine both the physical interaction and the technical behaviour of the product.

Lightening, blow, rotate—validating the logic between each action and sensory response. This prototype helped me validate the emotional consistency of the overall interaction.

LumaScent demonstrates how a traditional home object can be reinterpreted as an interactive, safer, and more emotionally engaging product. By combining embedded electronics, gesture-based interaction, scent switching, sound design, and iterative prototyping, the project moves beyond styling alone and explores how industrial design can shape a richer product experience.
The final outcome is not just a smart candle concept, but a prototype-led exploration of how multi-sensory interaction can be integrated into everyday objects.
